The Gifted Hands Review

“The Gifted Hands” is Kwon Ho-Young’s third film and stars Kim Kang-Woo and Kim Beom.
Kim Beom plays a man who is haunted with the gift of seeing somone’s past if he touches
them. Right away this films has a good story and could have been a great thriller. That’s how
the trailer portrays the film.

However, from the very start, we learn that this is not the kind of film we are about to watch.
It opens with suspensful titles then without any warning, turns into a poor version of a “buddy cop”
film. For a second, I wondered if I had wandered into the wrong theater. The feel and style of the
film is nothing one would expect from watching the trailer. I knew then, I wasn’t going to enjoy the
film.

The story itself was poorly written using many stero-types such as Kim Kang-Woo’s character;
a detective who would rather cry and flail his arms around than to speak. It makes you wonder
how this character would ever become a detective always acting like a child.

“The Gifted Hands” could have been good if it was played straight. Take away the comedy and the crying
detective and add some real suspense, you would have a film I would have happily paid
11,000won to watch. Instead we get a film that simply pretends to be a thriller.
